Doorkeep
watercolor
30 x 22
There is a modest area of Lexington, Virginia to the east of the Virginia Military Institute known locally as "Diamond Hill". It is marked by narrow streets and mostly smaller homes with even smaller yards that were constructed when horses were the mainstay of transportation. The "doorkeep" was on the porch of a small Victorian home regrading the world with great dignity while her owner worked inside; a snipet of the appeal often hidden in the mundane.
