The mountains of Virginia have been noted for the disproportionate service provided and young blood spent in the nation's conflicts; Bedford lies nearby. Yet the area remains depressed & opportunties limited. The 'support our troops" sign hanging in the window of a long closed shop in Buena Vista is a silent comment to the area's attitude and condition that is echoed by the opposing strong lights and shadows across the building and rotting snow in a painting absent of youth.
