The Dying Fry Cook
acrylic on covered panel
29 x 22 inches
The young man in the painting lives in West Virginia in an area where his employment chances are thin. He would likely consider it in those terms too, "chances". He is further hampered by life's baggage; yet he came to my attention by a kindness to another. I wanted to paint him as he is with the stained and clashing "fast food" shirt in the manner Andrew Wyeth painted "The Drifter" frankly showing his daily burden. The results is a mildly disturbing image but a growningly familar one too.
