Wendell has cut everyone's hair in his small shop on Jefferson Street in Lexington, Virginia long enough to be a part of the town's fabric. He has tonsured classes of students attending Washington & Lee as well as reviews of cadets from the Virginia Military Institute and others too, above, below and in between. He agreed to be the subject of a painting and sat to read his paper during a morning lull of business. He was gracious to me as he is to all and I tried to set that to paper in his painting.
