Road to Messina
2007
acrylic
24 x 48
In the distance again is Virginia Military Institute, which had its origin about a federal arsenel.

Much in Lexington centers about it's institutions earning it a comparision in the passing Old South to Athens. The Pattons attended VMI from its near inception; and George Patton following family route began his freshman year as a cadet there before being enrolled at West Point.

All journeys have beginings translated from thought to volition; and the ultimate road to Messina, it may well be said began looking up the old turnpike from a crossroad in a small Virginia town.
